JUST  TAKE  1 CAPSULE

Nightingale Pharma introduces JT1,
a cutting – edge technology
to change the way patients take
their medications.

In future, there will be no need for multiple pills, easily forgotten dose timings and wasted medicines.

Instead patients will take their own cocktail capsule once or twice daily, with one month's supply in a smart dispenser in the handbag or pocket.

 WHY  PATIENTS  NEED  IT

'Drugs don't work in patients who don't take them'

(C. Everett Koop, MD, US Surgeon General, 1985)

Unbelievably, 50% of patients' medications are either taken incorrectly or not taken at all.
This applies in diverse medical conditions such as Hypertension, Heart disease, Diabetes,
Organ transplantation, Cancer, HIV and Pain management.

This poor adherence to treatment causes a shockingly large amount of human suffering and unnecessary hospital admissions for stroke, heart attack, heart failure, diabetic decompensation, organ rejection, HIV progression and uncontrolled pain.

The annual cost to the wider economy is estimated at $300 billion in the USA. The figure of £500 million has been quoted simply for the UK NHS cost of medicines wastage.

As many patients now live with multiple medical conditions, the resulting polypharmacy can result in individuals being asked to swallow over 15 medications daily. Unsurprisingly, this results in poor adherence to treatment, even when it is supplied in special reminder boxes (compliance aids).

Just Take 1 (JT1) provides a method for placing an individual patient’s personal cocktail of medicines inside a single capsule, to be taken once or twice daily. JT1 system will prevent more than 300,000 unnecessary early deaths each year in Europe and the USA alone, caused by poor adherence to long-term medication (4% of all deaths).

Research shows that patients do reliably adhere to their treatments IF they are offered as one single pill once or twice a day with a reminder.

That's why patients need Just Take 1

HOW  IT  WORKS

One Capsule replaces a handful of pills

Most of what goes inside a pill is not the active ingredient, but is just just there to make it big enough to handle easily. What we do in JT1 is to reduce the amount of space taken up by each medicine needed by a patient, so that they can all comfortably fit inside one capsule.

We take care that none of the different medicines can react with any of the others.

Otherwise, it's the doctor's prescription that decides what goes into each JT1 capsule, just as with a conventional prescription.

The big difference is that instead of lots of pills to swallow, the patient only has to take one. And that's a great deal easier for people.

Seeing patients getting sick when they might have stayed healthy by taking their medications more accurately is what spurred on the development of JT1.

This is because it has long been known and proved in scientific studies that patients do reliably take their medications if the number can be reduced to one taken once or twice a day, particularly if there is a reminder to take the treatment on time.

The new JT1 system for administering medication to patients is an exciting practical development and is widely applicable to help patients with many different diseases.

Dr David Slovick MA PhD FRCP invented JT1. He founded Nightingale Pharma to develop it and make it a reality for patients.

Nightingale Pharma owns the patents giving the necessary protection to the

JT1 Intellectual Property.

David has been a UK hospital Physician for many years and has also worked in the UK Medicines regulatory authority and in a Clinical Research Organisation. His broad experience includes the design, testing and assessment of medicines from the standpoint both of efficacy and safety, but also observing the acceptability and clinical usefulness of new treatments.
